How did you become a porn performer? What led you down that career path?
“I was going to college, studying biological anthropology to piss off my biological parents who were also Christian fundamentalists. However, after my first dig, I realized that the social politics of academia just weren’t for me. I’d been doing adult work to pay the bills and felt much more respected and happier on set than I did in the field. So, I continued until my scholarships ran out, and then just focused on getting shoots and making content.”
What do you most want to achieve in the industry?
“I want to create content that combines American showmanship with Japanese fetishism and storytelling. I know that some American porn does attempt to do that and even brushes up against it, but a lot of it isn’t being made by people who have the necessary resources. Something is always lacking, because we don’t give the material the attention that it deserves. I don’t want to mention anyone specifically, but things like re-shoots, paid rehearsals, acting coaches, and lighting design could help a lot. Speaking of which, I really enjoyed Tucker Bankshot’s article on Oshima’s In the Realm of the Senses.
The new generation of adult actors and producers are more porn auteurs than adult actors, and the content they’re producing is stunning and creative.
